The Cube

OK everyone, this is my first real go at making something, so go easy....

The Cube, or more specifically, The Cube06 (6th version I've come up with), is a small, relatively easy compact home. It's sort of semi two level, a size I'd say would be easy to live in for two people. IKEA is your best friend here, as space efficient furniture would take care of storage needs, while ample room for living, sleeping and generally staying alive. What do you think???

Maybe I should have called this blog "frugal house design"

I suppose I have called this blog "logical" house design, as excessively huge houses to me, are not logical. They are a waste of space. They cost heaps to build, on many occasions sit empty and cost a shit load to keep clean. If we want to see who has the nicest or biggest house or is the richest and we really need to show off, lets just forget about that, drop our pants, and compare where it really matters. I mean, to some extent, it's childish to build a huge house with 15 guest rooms and 5 bathrooms, just in case, you know, you feel like taking a crap on the third floor instead of in the basement.

Why do we build such huge houses? Is it because we can? Why do we build houses out of brick? Is it because we have been doing that for hundreds of years? Why is it important to have a huge kitchen? Do we need 30 pans and 50 sets of dinnerware (actually, some of us may need that). Honestly, lets consider the notion that a "logical" house, is a small house. A logical house is a house that is logically efficient and cheap to build, so that everyone can have one, so that it can be built quickly easily and safely. One that perhaps uses recycled materials, such as a shipping container. Seriously, mindsets have to be challenged, thought processes re-evaluated and comparing who has the best/biggest house is just plain silly...

Shipping Container Homes - stylish...

Check out this design!!! And it looks great on the inside with the roof cut out of the bottom containers. I do think you are missing out on a lot of floor space "just for style", but it's effective. I wonder if some sort of subframe under the patio would be suitable to hold it up, IF the other end was welded on. I like it...

It has begun...

My search at creating a truly affordable easy to build no fuss house starts right here. I have been looking for years at small houses, even considered small house societies as a source of inspiration. I did find that they ALL are relatively expensive. Yes building with timber is exceptionally beautiful, but what if I just want "somewhere to live?" Somewhere where I can be comfortable, have all the conveniences of a "normal" house and be able to build it easily and without having to employ a small army.
Some of my recent finds:

Anabo - looks interesting, but once again, looks like it's going to be EXPENSIVE! And as I have found sooo many times, getting a price is like breaking into a bank.

Hello!!!

Welcome to logical house design, where I attempt to jot down my thoughts about house design, especially of the cheaper variety, like ones made form shipping containers and from refrigerated paneling

I have always loved architecture and combing this love with logical, affordable, sustainable and even recyclable design is my interest. Stay tuned and hopefully we can add to the movement of minimalist living, of sustainable design and other such mindsets, possibly ready even to live completely removed from "the grid".

I also love low maintenance gardening and landscaping...I will write about that as well from time to time, who knows, maybe even a new blog!

Ciao...
